Education experience

Promote the pre-school, and answer parents’ questions.

Our Lady of Pity Annexe is a small, long-established pre-school in Hoylake on the Wirral, run as a charity by a committee and registered with Ofsted. It runs a Playgroup for two to three year olds and a Pre-School for three to four year olds, and shares its site with the Reception class of Our Lady of Pity Primary School.

We designed, built, hosted and supported the pre-school’s website. It had two jobs: to promote the pre-school to families in the area, and to give parents the essential information they need, from admissions and session times to what to pack for lunch.

The Parent Information page: colour-coded panels on admissions, first days, toilet training, trips, holidays, drop-off and lunch, with downloadable forms

For parents

Everything a parent needs, in one place.

A bright, friendly site built around the questions parents actually ask, with the answers one click from every page.

  • Opening times and contact details – at the top of every page, with a ‘Request a tour’ button.
  • Admissions – the admissions policy, application form and holiday dates to download.
  • Sessions – session times, flexible hours, government funded places and wrap-around care.
  • Parent information – first days, toilet training, trips, drop-off and pick-up, lunch and snacks.
  • Meet the team – every member of staff, with their qualifications and a few words from them.
  • Trust – parent testimonials on every page, and the Ofsted reference and charity number in the footer.

The platform

ASP.NET and Umbraco, as we use for schools and colleges today.

The site runs on ASP.NET and the Umbraco content management system, the same platform we use for school and college websites today. Staff can update pages, policies, holiday dates and team details themselves, without needing us.

  • Open source – Umbraco has no licence fees, which matters to a charity.
  • Easy to edit – pages built from simple blocks of text, photos and downloads.
  • Hosted and supported – we looked after hosting, updates and changes, so the pre-school didn’t have to.
